the 26th. ultimo and with reference to my Secret Despatches of the let. and 2nd. instant, I have the honour to inform you that on
his arrival in Canton Tsun Chuan-hsun occupied himself by endeavour- -ing to stir up feeling in the Province against Tuan and to aliena DE General Lung Chai-kwong end the Governor-Generel of Kuan si fro... allegiance to the President. He seems to have met with less success than he anticipated.
un the 1st. instant information was received here that General Lung Chai-kwong had advanced from Wuchow, where he has been awaiting developments for several months with a force of about 4,000 men, to Shiu Hing, the ancient capital of the Kwan, - -tung Province. The same night it was reported by radiotelegraphy from one of His Lajesty's Ships at Canton that Sam Shui and Sainan hed been occupied by General Lung's troops. But on the 3rd. instant reports were received from Commenders of His Majesty's Gunboats weer Canton that Lung's troops had taken up a position at Sha Ho about 1: miles above Sem Shui and that the latter place was strongly held by revolutionary troops. There had been very heavy rain since the end of July which sealed to have stopped hostilities between the opposing forces. During these days an enormous unflux into the
Colony of Chinese from Canton to k place. It is estimated that since the declaration of independence about 40,000 people have taken
